This is the first time in 6 years that I was able to be in China during the Chinese new year. And this year is the first time we celebrated the holiday in Hainan, where it is not cold:).
Early 2010 the government initiated a plan to develop Hainan's tourism to attract international tourists. Good thing is that as more investment comes in the infrastructure will get better. Currently the only way to get to Haikou from Wenchang is taking a taxi. Howerver a new railway connecting the two cities is under construction. The dark side is that the quietness of this island will probably be destroyed and life will get more expensive. I don't know what the local want but I think the pros kills the cons.
